Armadillo, War in Afghanistan

The War in Afghanistan began on October 7, 2001, as the armed forces of the United States launched “Operation Enduring Freedom” in response to the September 11 attacks on the United States. The goal of the mission was to dismantle the Al-Qaeda terrorist organization and ending its use of Afghanistan as a base.

In 2011, almost ten years after, there is still fighting and war in Afghanistan while peace is still not in sight. Everyday we hear news about new bomb attacks with many casualties in the civil population.

Over the years, the deployment in Afghanistan became a fiasco for many countries that started their mission as peace keeping troops but ended up as combatants in a war. To put an end on this, several countries decided to reduce the number of their troops or to remove them completely from Afghanistan. But that leaves the question of peace still unsolved.

In order to remind you of the war in Afghanistan, we would like to recommend you to watch the movie “Armadillo” by Janus Metz that shows the war in Afghanistan through the perspective of Danish soldiers fighting in the front line in the Afghanistan conflict. The film was nominated for the Cinema for Peace Award for Justice in 2011.
