Murder File Hrant Dink

The murderer of the ethnic Armenian journalist Hrant Dink has been sentenced yesterday to 23 years in prison. Hrant Dink was the editor of a bilingual Turkish-Armenian newspaper who dedicated his life to advocating the rights of Armenians, Kurds and other minorities in the Turkish Republic. In 2007 he was murdered in broad daylight in the streets of Istanbul. The European Court of Human Rights ruled last year that Turkey had failed to protect Dink and imposed a fine of 107.000 EUR.

The film “Murder File: Hrant Dink” was a nominee for the Cinema for Peace Award for Justice in 2010 and was introduced at the gala by Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court Luis Moreno-Ocamp

For more information on this issue we would like to recommend you to watch the full film by Osman Okkan and Zimone Zitte. The film sheds light on the events leading up to the murder and the difficult relationship between Armenians and Turks which leads to tensions which still are not resolved.
