Cinema for Peace Monthly Screening November: AI WEIWEI - NEVER SORRY

„A country that rejects the truth, refuses change, and lacks a spirit of freedom is hopeless. Freedom of expression is one of life’s basic rights, and freedom of expression and of understanding are the very cornerstones of civilization. Freedom of speech is just one part of the spirit of freedom, it is one of life’s virtues and is the very essence of natural rights. Modernity cannot exist without freedom of speech.”

On June 10th 2012,  The Cinema for Peace Foundation hosted an evening in honor of Ai Weiwei after a special premier screening of the documentary “Ai Weiwei – Never Sorry” at Art Basel. The screening was followed by a panel discussion including Ai Weiwei’s gallerist Urs Meile, and film director Alison Klayman, who accompanied Ai Weiwei for three years in order to create the film. The Cinema for Peace Foundation’s intention was to give Ai Weiwei a voice, which he is denied by Chinese authorities. On his behalf we wish to promote human rights, social justice, and environmental responsibility through film.

Again, the Cinema for Peace Foundation wishes to support Ai Weiwei and all artists who are restricted in their artistic expression.

This November we will be screening “Ai Weiwei – Never Sorry” by Alison Klayman as part of our Monthly Screening Series in Hamburg (November 12th, 7 p.m., Kino Abaton) and Frankfurt (November 26th, 7 p.m., Kino Orfeo’s Erben).

We will also host a special “Ai Weiwei - Never Sorry” special screening with the support of various artists and human rights activists in Berlin. We’ll keep you posted on where and when this special screening will be.
